Aly & AJ Finally Address Rumors ‘Potential Breakup Song’ Is About Joe Jonas (Exclusive Video)

Nearly 20 years since the release of “Potential Breakup Song,” Aly & AJ (and StyleCaster’s May 2022 cover stars) are finally coming clean about the song’s subject—and whether or not it’s about AJ’s famous ex, Joe Jonas.

“It’s not about him,” AJ told StyleCaster. “I think I even told him, ‘You know that song is not about you.’ And he’s like, ‘I know. I know.’ That song was not about anyone in particular, which makes it hilarious but also people are like, ‘That drives me nuts because I want to know.”

Aly added, “They’re like, ‘What?! Who’s this guy that forgot your birthday?” AJ continued, “We’re like, ‘No one did.'” Aly concluded, “No, no, no. There’s no one.”

Aly and AJ Michalka, better known as the music duo Aly & AJ, gave StyleCaster the scoop while filming a video for our “Digital Footprint Diaries,” which saw the Disney Channel alums look back at memorable moments from their illustrious career, including their time in the 2006 Disney Channel original movie Cow Belles and the moment Miley Cyrus called AJ to have her cameo in her 2008 music video for “7 Things.”

And while Aly & AJ’s Disney-era music was the soundtrack to countless millennials, the sisters didn’t name themselves as part of their Disney Mount Rushmore. Instead, their Mount Rushmore consisted of Miley, Raven-Symoné, Hilary Duff, and Selena Gomez.
